Coal Preparation Society of America
Message from the President
I am not sure where the year has gone but we are already starting into Fall season! I would like to thank you for reading the Fall 2025 issue of the Coal Preparation Society of America’s Coal Processing Technology Journal. Change is in the air around this time of year and the same holds true for our industry, receiving recent support with the upcoming coal lease auctions and investments in the industry to modernize coal plants, the aim is to “Reinvigorate and Expand America’s Coal Industry”.
In August, the CPSA hosted a back to back set of Coal Prep 101 and 102 workshops in Morgantown, West Virginia. This was the first Coal Prep 102 that we have had for quite some time. For those wondering the difference in the 101 and 102 classes, the 102 is a more in-depth class detailing plant performance assessment, calculations, efficiencies and more within the coal preparation plant. With nearly 80 people in attendance to the workshops hosted by Dr. Rick Honaker, the feedback from the members in attendance was extremely positive. The CPSA will look for more offerings in the future on both workshops. I would like to thank SNF for sponsoring the workshops and to all the operators that were willing and able to send their personnel to the workshops.
We are rounding the corner on the end of the year and CoalProTec 2026 is coming into view. There will be a call for technical papers and presentations for the show coming out this month. If you have any projects, plant modifications or new technology implementations to showcase this is a great opportunity to present. As mentioned, registration is open on the website so reserve your spot and accommodations today!
Thank you for your continued support of the CPSA, and as always if there are any needs or ideas reach out to myself or any board member.
Work Safe and God Bless,
John Nielson
